Processes

At Unitech, we constantly equip ourselves with the latest technological advancements in the industry. This makes us stand apart from our peers in terms of the operational efficiency and in achieving top notch quality in our products.

Injection Moulding

Injection moulding is the first manufacturing process that Unitech started with 27 years ago. Today, we have moulding machines ranging from 40 ton – 1800 ton which cater to a wide range of product dimensions. We have horizontal machines, two platen injection moulding machines, vertical moulding machines, two colour twin injection moulding machines, all electric machines as well.
These machines are equipped with fully automated robots which ensures an error free production process and helps to optimise the production cycle time. We also have enabled AI assisted defect detection robot through vision test. This avoids any human error and makes the entire process more efficient. We have a centralised feeding system equipped with auto dehumidifier which helps in feeding the raw material with the required parameters to rule out any raw material related errors in the final product

Unitech boasts of a robust shop floor management system with its calibrated auxiliary equipment, tonnage wise availability of cranes and its SMED implementation.

Spray Painting

Spray painting is one of the key processes at Unitech.

To cater to their varied customer requirements, Unitech has different types of paint shop under its roof like manual paint shop, automatic paint shop with 2 axis and 6 axis robot and conveyorized paint shop facilities.

Unitech has a dedicated auto paint shops to cater to multiple painting requirements including the high gloss piano jet-black painting, among many others. For effectively painting exterior parts that are larger in dimension, we have conveyorized arm robotic paint shop. The conveyor booth is specifically designed as a 10K class clean room with the conveyor pitch ranging from 400mm to 3200mm which can be customized to suit the part dimension requirements. Being the fast technology adopter that Unitech is, we have also included the UV technology in painting and curing.

We employ robust pre- and post-processing techniques for parts, ensuring an effective and high-quality painting outcome. We use masking jigs and other processes to ensure high precision coverage of the painted parts. Thermal treatment and UV curing assist in better adhesiveness

Quality of the painted parts are ensured by subjecting it to DFT and colour testing. The durability is confirmed by a combination of multiple tests including scratch and wear resistance.

Laser Etching

Laser etching is a special process that uses a high-power laser beam to etch the required
symbols on the plastic or electronic parts. At Unitech, we have the capabilities to etch with a precision range from 2 micron to a maximum of 250 microns. This extensive range makes it possible to achieve any kind of desired output. This helps in producing quality illumination products that are extensively used in car interiors and other display products.

To ensure precise etching output, we have finely calibrated jigs with limit switches that accurately ensure the position and size of the image to be etched.

Pad Printing

Pad printing is an indirect offset printing process that utilises a silicon pad to transfer the required image or symbol onto the surface of the part, making it possible to print on both flat and curved surfaces.

At Unitech, our German made tampo printing machines ensure high quality image printing on plastic components, supported by precisely machines jigs.

Our state of the art programmable video measurement system ensures that the position and size of the print matches the required quality standards.

Screen Printing

Screen printing is a specialised process that utilises a mesh stencil to transfer the desired design onto plastic surfaces. At Unitech, we have both manual and automatic screen printing processes to cater to diverse applications.

The quality of the screen printing process is assessed using an advanced programmable video measurement system.

Surface Mount Technology

Surface mount technology (SMT) is an advanced process of mounting active and passive electronic components on a printed circuit board.

With a 10K class clean room facility, Unitech is equipped with a completely automated line with high quality pick and place machines that can achieve a remarkable capacity of up to 90000 components per hour (cph). Our production line includes solder paste inspection, automated optical inspection and an auto rejection buffer conveyor to ensure real-time quality control at every stage. An integrated Management Information System (MIS) provides comprehensive control and monitoring throughout the process.

Our SMT quality lab has extensive facilities such as a thawing machine, viscometer, stencil illumination, baking oven, critical for manufacturing high-quality error free PCBs that meet industry standards. We maintain MSL specific storage and packaging facilities to preserve the quality and functionality of the electronic components and PCB boards.

Our R&D is well equipped to execute projects with reverse engineering and value engineering.

Physical Vapour Deposition

Unitech has a special PVD coating machine for metalizing and ion plasma evaporation. Our advanced process includes plasma surface treatment before the required metal is coated on the substrate

We adopt a thorough process to ensure the substrate is free from foreign particles, preparing them for the metalizing process. We have special techniques using silicon to prevent surface blackening and improve the coating adherence

A diverse range of metals like aluminium, chromium, indium, zinc sulphide, copper are coated on the substrate according to the customer requirements. We ensure the quality of the coating by performing rigorous chemical alkaline tests.

The metallising process is used for various products like the lighting parts, decorative garnish in console and instrument panels in the car interiors, decorative automotive switches, medical handling equipment.

Commodity Assembly

Unitech has semi-automated assembly lines in a clean environment to execute critical part assemblies as per customer requirements. Fully assembled modules are supplied to the customers in a ready to use condition for their further processes.

To ensure effective and efficient assembly process, we incorporate multiple industry best practices. We have implemented the Therbligs concept and kaizen principles to optimise the entire process. These methodologies along with Poka-Yoke and automation in the line enable us to achieve 100% first time through rate for products.

Performance quality is tested through functional testing and vision illumination tests which ensures zero defect commodities supply to our customers.
